Adventist Health Glendale receiving the award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Winning the gold in stroke care! The AHA award recognizes hospitals committed to stroke care for patients accord- ing to national research-based guidelines using the latest scientific evidence. Adventist Health Glendale earned the gold award once again! “We are honored to be recognized for improving the quality of care for our stroke patients by implementing the AHA’s initiatives,” says Lance Lee, MD, neurologist and medical director of the comprehensive stroke center at Adventist Health Glendale. “This award is a testament of the dedication our physicians and nurses exhibit on a daily basis to reduce stroke-related mortality rates and readmissions.” The AHA’s measures include use of medications and treatments to speed up recovery and reduce death and disability. In addition, patients should also receive health education before discharge as well as other care transition interventions. The hospital also received the Target: Stroke SM Elite Honor Roll award. To qualify for this added recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures to reduce time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic strokes. DNV GL–Healthcare, one of the leading accreditors of quality-driven care and clinical excellence for America’s hospitals, has once again certified Adventist Health Glendale as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. In earning this prestigious accreditation, hospitals demonstrate exceeding patient safety standards set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association. Adventist Health Glendale was the first medical center in California to receive this accreditation from DNV GL. “It is with great pride that we accept these two awards,” says Marion Watson, director of the neuroscience institute. “Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. To help reduce these statistics, we adhere to clinical measures and initiatives set forth by leading organizations to improve patient outcomes.” The DNV GL surveyors had complimentary remarks at the closing conference. In fact, one surveyor said, “Miracles are happening here.” It takes a great deal of hard work and care from a dedicated team of professionals. Congratulations to Adventist Health Glendale’s stroke physicians and care team.
