Laugh 4 a Cause A time to celebrate and raise awareness An evening of comedy and top-flight entertainment raised more than $80,000 this past October. The proceeds from the evening help to support free wigs, special interest classes, counseling and services for cancer survivors, provided by the Cancer Center’s Ingeborg’s Place Apart/Positive Image Center. Sponsored by the Adventist Health Glendale Foundation and presented by the Guild, a support group for the hospital’s Cancer Center, “Laugh 4 a Cause” at- tracted nearly 1,000 donors and friends. “Cancer survivorship is something to celebrate, and we certainly did!” says Anita Aghajanian, the Guild’s vice president of fundraising, who coordinated the event. The Guild extends a welcome to anyone interested in donating to the Cancer Center’s Ingeborg’s Place Apart/Positive Image Center. For details, call Annual Giving Officer Gayle Craig at the Foundation at 818-409-8055 . Legacy of Giving Wall honors endowment donors An endowment is one of Adventist Health Glendale’s most precious assets. The Foundation celebrated the generosity of donors by placing their names on the new Legacy of Giving Wall, unveiled in November 2018. Friends of the hospital who have given cumulative gifts of $10,000 or more toward the endowment are acknowledged on the wall, located in the Robert C. Osher Memorial Lobby, near the hospital’s main information desk. “What makes this so important is that the endowment contributes to the future and legacy of Adventist Health Glendale,” explains Foundation President Irene Bourdon. The hospital’s endowment is a carefully managed portfolio of funds. As the en- dowment grows, only the interest and investment income will be allocated to the medical center, on approval of the Foundation’s board of directors. “Gifts to the endowment will continue to have a positive impact on the hospital and enhance patient care for many years to come,” Bourdon adds. “We will be adding names to the Legacy of Giving Wall as donors contribute and the endowment grows.” To learn more about the endowment and the Legacy of Giving Wall, please call the Foundation at 818-409-8055 . Confetti rains as cancer survivors, physicians and supporters join in a grand finale. Oncologist is Foundation’s 2019 Physician Hero If you’re being treated for cancer, you seek an oncologist who not only has medi- cal expertise as a physician, but who can also provide you with emotional support. Sara H. Kim, MD, medical director of radiation oncology at Adventist Health Glendale, embodies these qualities. Based on tributes from her patients, the Founda- tion is pleased to announce Dr. Kim as our 2019 Physician Hero. “Each year, the Foundation invites patients to honor an important physician in their life,” says Foundation President Irene Bourdon. “Patients tell us how much Dr. Kim cares for them, takes time to listen and offers words of encouragement—model qualities of a Physician Hero.” Dr. Kim will be honored at the Foundation’s Gala 2019 on Sunday, April 14, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE. Patients can make a donation in Dr. Kim’s name by calling the Foundation at 818-409-8055 or by visiting adventisthealth.org/glendale/giving .
